FAFA Art Gallery Opens to a Crowd

As a WGSR-TV camera rolled, a big crowd gathered out front and cheered as Mayor Festerman cut the ribbon at the grand opening of the Fine Arts Festival Association Art Gallery. Once they moved inside, it was elbow to elbow with patrons admiring the artwork and sampling the hors’doeuvres and wine. There was a steady roar as people talked about the art, the new gallery and the tremendous amount of support for the arts shown by so many.

The Studio Group of Rockingham County was chosen by the Fine Arts Festival Association’s Board of Directors as the very first group to show in their new space. Their artwork will hang through the month of July. The Fine Arts Festival Association (FAFA) will feature new artists monthly with a “First Friday at Five” opening reception.

The FAFA, established 63 years ago, began its long history by sponsoring an arts and crafts festival that was held annually in various churches throughout the county. Now that festival, the largest of its king, is held each spring on the RCC campus with over 400 entries. The FAFA is a non-profit 501(c)3 association with a board of directors, officers, by-laws and a paid coordinator, Anne Lanning. Their mission is simple: to promote the cultural arts and artists throughout Rockingham County. With their new gallery and office space and support from the City of Reidsville and private citizens, they hope to greater fulfill their mission.

Tara Thullner, a fine arts major at RCC, will serve as curator for the gallery. Tara has a natural talent for designing and hanging art shows. She will also be responsible for daily operations, marketing and promotions for the gallery and membership solicitation for the FAFA.

Find out how you can support the FAFA by becoming a Benefactor or Patron member. Stop by and talk with Tara or call the gallery at 349-2060.
The FAFA Art Gallery, 217 SW Market St, will be open Thursday 10:00am – 7:00pm, Friday and Saturday 10:00am – 2:00pm.
